After I saw a friend’s biking video on Vimeo – I was inspired to make my own from Buenos Aires. Last Sunday, on probably the hottest day so far during my stay here, Samuel, a Colombian friend of mine and me decided to do a tour of the city by bikes. These days Buenos Aires is very quiet and empty, most people are on vacations and some days are just simply too hot to stay outdoors. (!)
One of my favourite activities in Chile is catching the bus to … Argentina. Now that might at first sound very wrong, and it might connotate that I despise Chile. That is however not true. Chile is a wonderful country! It is the longest and slimmest country in the world – and as it’s clinging onto the South American continent it’s boasting a coastline of some 4,300 kilometres! Since the country is so narrow – wherever you find yourself you’ll be no more than 1,5-2 hrs away from both the beach/coast and the mighty Andes.
It’s been a little more than a month since I arrived in South America. Less traveling and fewer super exotic impressions have led to a more relaxed need for blogging. Having not pushed out my thoughts and images so regularly as in India – I guess you are all thinking that I’ve been simply tanning, beef-ing, running, relaxing and sleeping? Almost – because there hasn’t been much time or chance for sleeping. I’ll get back to that!
First of all – happy new year folks! It’s been a while since I updated my site – but I’ve been busy enjoying myself in Argentina and Chile. I will come back to my latest adventures in the next update.
So – I finally finished editing my videotakes from India. I had quite a lot of material and I realised in the editing process that I have no experience as a reporter or as a video-reporter. I wish I was as good as my good friend Martin in NRK! My takes are long, boring and travelling solo it is somewhat difficult to make it engaging and interesting (especially if you have not done that before). I have therefor tried to angle the film as brief snapshot of how I saw India – and as you can see, I have been very good filming when I have been on the move….. Read more →
Namaste! It’s been two week since I left India. Argentina has been treating me very well and like I anticipated – the daily experience in all aspects of life is so much different here. Also – my stay here is of a slight different nature, instead of travelling I am based in Buenos Aires for a longer period. This allows me to manage time, calm down and enjoy the experience of freedom in a different manner. The past two weeks has thus provided me with a lot of time and impulses that have helped in processing my time in and impressions from India.
The official tourism industry of India promotes India through the the well-known Incredible India campaign (Youtube). The video is well made and clearly shows the wide range of experiences one might have in India – but yet it is also somewhat disguising the experience of everyday hassle and whatever happens between the highlights. Aaaaah! Upon arrival in Buenos Aires it felt like I was opening a book I read ages ago – a book that I really enjoyed, but did not fully comprehend or take my time to explore enough. Coming from India – a country that in most ways are very different from Argentina, I was motivated to once again grasp the latin culture and explore the beautiful continent of South America.
City of London 2007 – young and ambitious students from all over the world have made this great city their choice for their next career move. Although the big financial crisis of 2008 is on the doorstep – these optimists have come here for one year, not only to learn but also to make new friends. Among them are Thomas from Denmark, Steffen from Trondheim, Arun from Bangalore and me from Stavanger.
Living in the same building and doing the same degree we formed a study group within the first week. Our group came to be known among other students as “the dream team” as we were one of few groups that sticked together throughout the year – and we also managed to balance academic and social activities without suffering on either part. Arun Nayak – the only non-Scandinavian came to be known as THE GREAT INDIAN – or simply The TGI!
In the last days in Ponducherry I met up with Torkil Dantzer, the father of my good Danish friend Adam.
I guess I had it coming. Last time I survived 3 amazing weeks without catching the so-called “Delhi-belly”. This time around I was just about to go through my fourth week. That was however before arriving in Chennai after some long awaited debauchery (Calcutta), risky dining (Calcutta again) and a significant increase in temperature (also Calcutta). I did not spend much time in Chennai, and I am not the type that likes to call a place bad names, but – Chennai is a …shithole. And yes I might have been biased. Immediately following my arrival and meeting Eliane (whom I first met in Pune) at our hotel, we went to a local diner for some South Indian Cuisine. After my first bite I felt a sudden nasty and uncomfortable numbness in my body – shivering, forehead warm and cold sweating. I looked around the chaotic and almost street-side eatery and felt more and more dizzy as I watched people slurping food from the table using their bare hands. I HAVE TO PUKE, Read more →
Hello my friend! Where you from? England? You Australia? America! Come here my friend!
Shouting touts are not unique to India – but perhaps the quantity of them, and sometimes also their amazing persistence. At any entry or exit to a museum, railway/bus station or major tourist sights touts will flock towards you upon spotting your obvious charming tourist looks and appearance. Read more →
